Foi fundado em 1852,\u00a0 onde a nossa matriz, a Escola Industrial do Porto foi uma das duas primeiras, em confronto com a Academia Polit\u00e9cnica, cuja refer\u00eancia era o modelo elitista, academista e ret\u00f3rico da Universidade de Coimbra que, incapaz de responder \u00e0s necessidades emergentes, vinha sendo contestado pelos intelectuais mais esclarecidos.<\/p>\n

Em 2006, por for\u00e7a da ades\u00e3o de Portugal \u00e0 Declara\u00e7\u00e3o de Bolonha, o ISEP disponibilizar\u00e1 um novo Plano de Estudos, constitu\u00eddo por licenciaturas e mestrados nas diversas \u00e1reas da Engenharia, assim iniciando um novo ciclo da sua j\u00e1 longa hist\u00f3ria.<\/p>\n

Em 2008, An\u00edbal Cavaco Silva, Presidente da Rep\u00fablica Portuguesa, enaltece a qualidade do trabalho desenvolvido no ISEP, durante o Roteiro para a Ci\u00eancia. A passagem pelo ISEP constitui a primeira visita oficial de um chefe de Estado portugu\u00eas a um instituto polit\u00e9cnico. O ISEP atribui o primeiro grau de mestre p\u00f3s-Bolonha.
